MARRAKECH – SMALL DESERT OF ZAGORA
During this 2-day excursion in the small desert of Zagora, you will experience not only the lifestyle of the people living in the Berber villages, you will also see the beauty the desert has to offer. Many movies are even filmed in the area which you will explore with our experienced guides, and of course one of the highlights of this 2-day tour will be the sunrise in the morning. Besides the beauty of the desert, we will also give you a little Moroccan experience with a traditional breakfast!
Day 1
Pick up from your accommodation in Marrakech at 8 o´clock in the morning and depart to the High Atlas mountains going over the Tizi N´Tichka pass with stops for panoramic views. On the way we will see many Berber villages. Then we continue to the south and make a detour via another road that will take us to the ksar (fortified village) of Ait Ben Haddou where we will visit the famous Kasbah (declared World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1986).
Famous films have been shot in this spectacular stage, including Gladiator , Obelix, The Mummy, The Jewel of the Nile, Sahara with Penélope Cruz…etc. Free time for lunch in town. We continue our way to Zagora through the Anti Atlas mountains. After 2 hours driving we arrive at our destination “Zagora desert” at about 5pm.
We leave the car here to ride the camels towards the camp of Berber tents. The ride takes about one hour and we get there just to see the sunset.
Day 2
We wake up early in the morning to watch the sunrise from a small dune next to the camp. After breakfast we return on the camels back to Zagora and our 4×4 car will bring us towards the Draa Valley.
On the way we will make some stops to take some pictures of the beautiful valley that runs along the Draa river. This river is the longest in Morocco and flows through the whole country reaching Mauritania to end in the Atlantic Ocean. We start the way back to Marrakech over the Tizi n´Tichka pass and we will have lunch at the highest point.
After lunch we continue our trip and in about 2 hours we reach Marrakech, and bring you to your hotel. Important: In the small desert of Zagora there aren´t high dunes, only short ones. It is not the big desert you expect to see, that’s why we recommend the 3 days trip to Merzouga desert.
